A Uniquely Canadian Perspective

Unlike other products, that were built for the US market and adapted for use in Canada, the Vicinity Jobs labour information solutions were built for Canada, to address the unique circumstances of the Canadian labour market. This matters for a number of reasons:

  • Our data sources are selected to represent the Canadian market. Some of Canada’s leading sources of job postings data do not operate in the US, while job postings coming from certain major US-centric data sources may not be reliable in Canada.
  • Employer databases, which provide the foundation of reporting by employer and industry, differ significantly between Canada and the US.
  • In Canada, industry classification is reported using the NAICS classification system, while the US market typically uses SIC (an entirely different classification roaster).
  • While occupational classifications in both countries use NOC, there are differences between the NOC schemes used in Canada and the US.

Using data sources that are representative of the Canadian market is crucial to ensuring the validity of any labour market report. Proper alignment with the Canadian classification systems makes it easy to combine Vicinity Jobs data with information coming from other Canadian data sources, including Statistics Canada.

Fully verifiable data

You don’t have to take our word for the validity of the data that we use. Our hiring demand analytics suite enables users to drill down to the level of individual job postings. So if our reports tell you that there were 5 job postings last month for industrial electricians in your town, you can actually see those 5 job postings.

In the case of labour supply reports, users can also drill down to the level of individual job seeker profiles. However, in order to protect the privacy of individual job seekers and comply with data privacy regulations, we only provide an anonymized summary of each job seeker’s profile.
